Urmila is the only member of Rang Bazaar who simply walked in on her own. One day she showed up and said, “Maine suna hai yahan embroidery sikhate hain.” From that moment on, nothing has been the same.
The newest member of our team, Urmila is also the quickest learner. Her tailoring is so precise it can move you to tears, she seems to master any sewing machine within minutes. Embroidery, tailoring, shibori, tie-dye, whatever she turns to, Urmila takes her time to absorb the craft, and once she does, her work is consistently beautiful.
A mother of one, Rang Bazaar has become her space to unwind, laugh with friends, share stories, and carve out financial freedom. She first came here looking for something to do when she felt bored and lonely at home. Now, she often has to remind herself to go back home because this space feels just as much hers.
Urmila speaks quietly, often sitting in the corner while others talk, but her work speaks loudly. When asked what Rang Bazaar has given her, she replies simply: “Mere kaam ki safai achi hai.” The pride in her voice is unmistakable. Through her craft, Urmila has found not just an identity but also a dream: to make beautiful clothing that everyone can wear, pieces stitched with the same quiet care she carries in everything she does.
